Learn and drill wrestling fundamentals like takedowns, controls, and positioning while improving your conditioning and boosting your confidence. If you want to win the fight on your feet and become a more skilled grappler you will need a foundation in wrestling. The class is always 60 minutes long, and you will see the fundamental techniques of wrestling repeatedly while also being introduced to new techniques. In this, you will develop a solid foundation of knowledge while also continuing to progress in your understanding of the sport. Why learn wrestling?

Wrestling is a great activity to increase confidence and takedown ability! Due to these reasons, it is one of the best activities one can use to supplement their Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training. Having the confidence and ability to control a bad guy from standing to the ground allows one to be ready to defend themselves at all times.

Are there belts in wrestling?

No, there are no belts in wrestling. Since wrestling has its roots in sport and competition rather than a martial art, wrestling never developed a formal ranking system.

What is wrestling?

Wrestling is one of the oldest sports known to humanity. It is found throughout the world in a variety of different cultures and countries. Due to this, there are many various forms of wrestling. One common theme throughout all the forms is taking somebody down to the ground where you can employ pins, joint locks, or transition into other grappling styles. This program will focus mostly on takedowns coming from the American collegiate style of wrestling.

What will I learn in wrestling class?

In its most basic form, you will develop the ability to take somebody to the ground and control them from there. Although there are many effective wrestling styles, this program focuses on progressively working into controlling positions, which will allow takedowns and controls to be easy and effective, rather than relying on strength and athleticism to utilize the techniques.

Will I spar in wrestling?

There will be no live sparring in this class. However, there will be opportunities to practice the techniques with some resistance with technical drills during class. In addition to this, open mat time follows the class, and if one has permission from the instructors, they can practice with live resistance with classmates.

Who is wrestling for?

This wrestling program is designed for those who are 13 years old and older. Wrestling is an excellent skill to have by itself, and it is even more remarkable when combined with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

My First Class

What to Expect on Day One?

On day one, we recommended that you arrive 15 minutes early for your first class. This will allow for a waiver to be completed and for you to be introduced to the program and the instructor. After that, the class will then begin, and you will start to learn! Although the techniques will differ, each class will have at least one takedown that you will learn.

What to Wear for Your First Class?

It is recommended that you wear a rash guard and athletic shorts for class. Spats are also allowed to be worn underneath shorts as well. If you don’t have a rash guard, that is alright! You can still attend class with an athletic or a well-fitting t-shirt. The only requirement is that the shorts don’t have pockets for safety purposes. Wrestling shoes are not needed for this class.

When Should I Show Up for Class?

When possible, we recommended that you arrive 10-15 minutes before class. This will allow you to stretch, warm-up, and prepare for class in whatever way you see fit.

What Should I Bring to Combatives?

The most important thing to bring to class is a positive and open mindset. Wrestling may seem intimidating, but we have created a welcoming learning environment that will you to learn the amazing techniques of this sport. It also is recommended that you bring a bottle of water so that you can hydrate as needed.

What is the format of the class?

Wrestling class will follow the following format:

  • 10-minute warm-up and review of previously learned techniques

  • 35 minutes of learning technique

  • 15 minutes of technical drills
